LAGOS STATE POLYTECHNIC
The Institution
The Lagos State Polytechnic formally known as Lagos State College of Science and Technology, was established by the promulgation of the Lagos State Edict No. 1 of 1978 with retroactive effective from June1, 1977.


The Polytechnic, with administrative headquarters at Ikorodu, was established for the training of middle and high technical manpower for the Nigerian economy. Currently, the institution has over 20,000 Full-Time and Part-time students on roll and also runs 52 NBTE-accredited National/Higher National Diploma Programme in Engineering, Technology, Environmental Studies, Agriculture and Management Science on its Ikorodu and Isolo campus. About 35% of its students are at the HND level, and its graduate employment record is one of the best in the country.

The Lagos State polytechnic is a polytechnic of excellence and is nationally acclaimed. It has built strong collaborations with the Isreali, French and United kingdom Government, the Africa Network for Scientific and Technological Institutions (ANTSI), the European Society of Engineering education (SEFI), the Commonwealth Association of Polytechnic in Africa (CAPA) and the United Nations Educational, Science and Culture organization (UNESCO). Others include the Raw Materials research and development Council (RMRDC), Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Nigeria Institute of Management (Chartered) (NIM), Estate Surveyor/Valuers Registration Board (ESVRB), Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON), Quantity Surveyors Registered Board (QSRB) and the Chartered Insurance Institution of Nigeria (CIN).

Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the post of the Rector which shall become Vacant in the institution in June 2011. The new Rector will be building on the achievement of the current Rector who will soon complete his term. The successful candidate will have the opportunity of leading one of Nigeria’s most distinct and focused tertiary institution, and also carry it forward to the next stage of its development.

The Rector
The Rector is the Chief Academic, Administrative and Accounting Officer of the Polytechnic and has general responsibility of matter relating to the day-to-day administration of the institution, subject to the policy control of the Governing Council

In addition to proven management and Leadership experience, the successful candidate must have a demonstrable passion for academic endevour and be credible to the academic community.

Qualification and Experience
Interested candidates for the post should posses the following qualifications:
i.                     A Doctorate degree or Master’s degree in any of the following discipline: Agriculture, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Technology, and Management Science with at least eighteen (18) years professional and administrative experience, at least five which must have been gained in an institution of comparable status.
ii.                   Demonstrable ability to offer academic and administrative leadership as well as the ability to effectively discharge the duties and responsibilities of the Office of the Rector.
iii.                  Evidence of scholarship publications in reputable journals.
iv.                 Candidates must not be below the rank of a chief lecturer in a polytechnic or Reader/Associate Professor in a university or equivalent institution;
v.                   Candidates must posses membership of reputable professional body/bodies in Nigeria and be able to command the respect and loyalty of the majority of members of staff and students of the institution.

Terms of Appointment/Condition of Service 
  1. The appointment is for an initial period of four (4) years and may be renewed for a second four (4) years, subject to satisfactory performance.
  2. The remunerations attached to the post are those enjoyable in similar tertiary institutions in Nigeria including other benefits and allowances that may be approved by the Governing Council of Lagos State Polytechnic from time to time.
  3. Other conditions of service are comparable to what obtains for Head of Tertiary Institutions in Lagos State.
